The former, MFG Systems, was a joint venture with Effective Management Systems, Inc. (EMS) of Milwaukee Wisconsin, and marketed and implemented EMS manufacturing and distribution applications throughout the tri-state area. CDC, on the other hand, developed and marketed the first wave of micro-computer based business software, such as CDC-1, which included point-of-sale, purchasing, bill of materials, shop floor control and job costing. In three years, CDC-1 was implemented in over 350 different companies and is still in use by many companies today. Van began his career as a software designer, developer and product manager, and is a graduate from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in mathematics.
